Organization Awards

Sensis Corporation

Training Realignment Initiative - Sensis management asked the Sensis training group to be more proactive in meeting company objectives and in sharing responsibility for the bottom line. The training group faced the challenge of finding ways to reduce costs and accelerate schedules without sacrificing quality - to do more with less. This challenge required rethinking and restructuring much of what they did. They developed a training strategy involving redesign of training materials, tracking of training performance, and logging and assessment of instructional skills. The initiative produced positive, verifiable results in less than a year which contributed more directly to larger corporate goals. The initiative directly aligned with the larger organizational objective of 'working lean' to keep Sensis competitive in a highly competitive international market.

"Winning the 2008 CNY BEST award gave our training group something to be proud of and inspires us to further strive for continual improvement in our customer training process. Our participation in CNY ASTD exposes us to best practices in learning and enables us to collaborate with our peers in the CNY area and beyond - an invaluable development opportunity."

Mohawk Valley Manufacturers Consortium

Manufacturing Consortium Project - BOCES Consortium of Continuing Education organized a group of local manufacturers to discuss the need to raise the skill levels of their incumbent workers and new hires. The group grew to 23 manufacturers that exhibited a shared understanding of the need for continual economic development through employee development. The result was a coordinated, consolidated approach to developing employees within the manufacturing sector. Through training analyses and Economic Development Funding, 1,106 training programs were held for 3,329 employees resulting in operating cost savings of $28 million, productivity increases of 24%, a more competitive workforce with job retention, creation and upgrades.

Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracuse

Leadership Development Training Program - CEO Chasz. Parker had a vision for organizational learning and excellence with staff leadership development first on the list. An organizational leadership training program was designed for the Rescue Mission bringing the ?best' of current leadership thinking to the organization and providing a forum where thinking could be channeled throughout the organization in an active, viable way. By implementing a comprehensive ?workplace leadership learning program', the Rescue Mission has realized budget growth and increased financial efficiency, enhanced program excellence, and made more staff promotions and experienced shorter waiting periods to fill open positions. Organizational communication and staff involvement in key decision-making processes have also been positively impacted.

Consultant Award

Completely Organized, Inc.

Get Organized (GO System) Training - Workshop teaching participants to be more focused, organized and productive. The workshop discusses the six major issues that cause disorganization in the workplace while giving participants the tools and information needed to overcome their organizing challenges. Techniques and skills are taught that can be implemented that day, as well as follow up material to be done on an individual basis. One client stated that this program resulted in "change in the workplace while creating opportunities for strategic growth and success for the individuals as well as the companies they work for."

"It was such an honor to participate in the 2008 CNY BEST. It is a great feeling to be recognized by my peers; and the experience was rewarding both personally and professionally. It validated the services I provide as well as the client's satisfaction in my programs. CNY ASTD did a great job recognizing my company and providing numerous opportunities to be recognized publicly. Thank you CNY ASTD!"

Individual Award

Kathleen J. Howard, M.B.A., M.Ed.

Onondaga County Government

(recently retired - currently Principal of Human Development Associates)

Multi-Tiered Program of Training Offerings - To increase training participation and application of learning on the job, a multi-tiered program of training offerings was created. Employees were given the ability to design their own customized professional development programs while choosing the level of participation that is best for them. These offerings ranged from short workshops to certificate programs of several days in length. This multi-faceted approach to training has doubled employee participation in training from 163 to 328 employees in one year.

"Receiving a 2008 CNY BEST benefited my work tremendously. I was lauded within the organization I worked for at the time. It also helped me gain more clients when I went out on my own as a consultant. Receiving the CNY BEST awards shows validation for hard and successful work, and, darn it, it just feels good to be recognized by fellow learning and performance professionals. Thank you, CNY ASTD."
