Enhanced Division Training Program
The newly created Central New York Division of Time Warner Cable is operated with 1,600 employees. With the challenges of geography, diverse product and service lines and a multi-generational workforce, the traditional ways of delivering training needed to adapt to become a sustainable competitive advantage for our organization. To capitalize on this opportunity, we enhanced our current training program tomeet the needs of our changing workforce and began the transitions into a regional model.

Contextualized Workplace Literacy Program
OnondagaCounty currently has over 10,000 immigrant adults. The immigrant population is a viable resource for employment but they often lack the necessary skills to keep jobs, improve their wages, and move up to the next job title at the same business. The goal of this collaborative program is to improve English literacy gains and increase wages of the English as a Second Language employees at four employer sites.

Individual
Chuck Durante
Chuck Durante works with a broad range of students. Many have just lost their jobs. He helps them develop skills that many of them take directly into the work place. Using his professional and educational background, he has helped to expand the learning horizons of over 600 students. As an educator, Chuck plans and develops classes and activities that fit the needs of his students, which include traditional and nontraditional students as well as people making transitions in their lives. Chuck helps his students set and achieve their goals. He does this by listening, acting as teacher, coach and friend.

"A recent ASTD studying showed that 38 percent of companies surveyed are placing more emphasis on learning as result of the economic turndown. These companies have a decided advantage, and are positioned well for the economic upturn - they will become workplaces of choice."
