Tips for Preparing a Winning CNY BEST Nomination

The winning submissions showed strength in the following areas:

-          Submission met all criteria (followed the checklist on the nomination form)

-         Submission clearly showed the link of practice to customer needs (showed tie to organization's strategic plans)

-         Submission included evidence of the impact of the practice (included testimonials, surveys, etc)

-          Submission included quantifiable data (showed measurements)

 

    • Nominate your company and/or yourself
      u      You can't win if you don't play
    • Show your excellence
      u      Describe the nominated practice
      u      Provide materials and information to support the nomination; give specific examples
      u      Support materials could include: practice overviews; copies of manuals; excerpts or examples from tutorials; class work
    • Include your results
      u      Identify strategic plans/goals
      u      Relate your accomplishments to strategic plans/goals
      u      Support material could include: customer letters or testimonials; survey results; formal awards; statistics and metrics; charts, graphics
      u      Avoid anecdotal comments without support evidence
      u      Use quantifiable information to support results
    • Follow all submission requirements
      u      Complete nomination form
      u      Include executive summary
      u      Include support material
    • Don't overcomplicate the process
      u      Use materials already available
    • Make sure your nomination is legible
      u      Make it easy for the judges to review your nomination
    • Present a nomination with a polished, image
      u      Make it easy for the judges to review your nomination
      u      Use table of contents, sections and appendixes with tabs. Make reviewing the submission flow easily.
      u      It is not recommended to submit nominations electronically, they do not make reviewing the nomination easy. 
    • Two or three heads are better than one
      u      Ask colleagues to review your draft for input
    • Submit your nomination on time 
      u      Give yourself plenty of time to prepare a thoughtful nomination
